WirelessVT Solutions uses the 802.11b standard (mostly), otherwise known as Wi-Fi, to deliver High-speed internet to you. This type of setup is called "Fixed Wireless" because we use wireless to link your computer or network to ours. If you are familiar with Cable or DSL service, you know that there is a "Modem" which you hook to your computer or network. We have a similar device, which we refer to as the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) or "The Box". Wireless is the way we get internet to your home. With DSL, the internet comes over the phone line. Your computers still connect to your own network or our CPE via a Network Jack. This is not the same as when you take your laptop to an internet café. That is called an internet Hotspot. In some situations, we use the 802.11g standard, which is the upcoming replacement for 802.11b - but they work with each other. The CPE consists of a small box and an antenna. Currently, there is only one manufacturer who creates equipment of a quality we feel is necessary. We use these products exclusively. This company is Senao/EnGenius. You must purchase this box from us. You also need to purchase the antenna from us, since the exact antenna needed is determined during the installation. There are a few different types of antennas, which you need depends on distance from our Access Points. These devices are up to 8x stronger than the technology you purchase at a local store. Since we use a standard technology, this equipment can be used to connect to any 802.11b or g network. It uses Intel chipsets. No special software is needed. Since it plugs into an Ethernet jack, any computer equipped with a network card can use our service, no matter what the OS. The speed of the network depends on your area. We deliver a T1
(1.544 Megabits) or multiple T1s to a community. This
bandwidth, like cable, is shared among the users, but most of the time you
feel the full benefit of the available bandwidth when surfing the web.
It has the same up and down speeds, unlike Cable and DSL. You will
notice this faster speed when sending email or photos, and much higher
quality when using Voice
over IP technology (VoIP). |
